THE WORLDS FIRST POSTCARD, WAS SENT FROM THE SCHLOSS SEEFELS
Once upon a time there was a rich man with a taste for the picturesque, who made amazing dream cometrue by building a nice little palace in the bay at Pörtschach. Thus it was in 1860 that the philatelist and inventor of the postcard, Dr. Emanuel Herrmann, built Schloss Seefels on the banks of Lake Wörthersee. 35 years ago, the previous owners converted the palace into a luxury hotel.
The Seefels a venerable castle according to its origin, however in the style new, surprising and unconventional. The octagonal tower of this beautiful summer palace, built during the reign
of Emperor Franz Joseph, is reflected in the clear blue waters of Pörtschach Lake. What could be more romantic than dining beneath the elegant glass roof of the Belle Epoque veranda or eating on the terrace as the breeze wafts the scent of flowers past your table?
Castles are often build on rocks. The Castle Seefels stands on rock overlooking the whole Lake called "Wörthersee". Many say that is the most beautiful place at the Lake.
Anyway, it is a special place, near the tumultuous Pörtschach and however in quiet isolation.
TODAY:
The newly renovated Hotel Schloss Seefels stand proudly and majestically at this select location, a jewel in a magnificent landscape, the perfect harmony of a historical building and a luxurious interior.
